Every year, the Baliga Lab brings in around three local high school students to participate in an internship at ISB. Students are exposed to a wide variety of wet and dry laboratory experiences such as microbiology work and genetics research, as well as opportunities to listen to lectures, interact with ISB faculty members, and understand more about careers in biology.
This year, thanks to generous grant funding, the Baliga Lab internship program was able to host three high school students for a six-week period, during which the interns worked in the lab, attended numerous seminars and workshops, and gain valuable experience to prepare them for further exploration of systems biology. The Hood lab also hosted three high school interns, who were able to explore genetic database tools, assist with educational outreach programming, and participate in the ISB community.
