ISB Internship

The internship is very interactive based on your personal interests but here are some things we did as interns. We tested out and prepared educational modules like procedure videos and high school labs. We got to increase our experience with handling cameras, storyboarding, organizing, and using programs like Adobe Premiere and Photoshop. Olachi and Kevin transferred EIGN, a unit about the Environmental Impact on Gene Networks, into a printable copy, gaining experience in design. We all wrote up pages for this website, learning more about practicality in design, formatting, and the specific content. Jia Hao wrote most of the coding. Jia Hao and Jocelyn worked with Nic Pinel to experiment with Dunaliella Salina, Halobacterium Salinarum, and Artemia, learning how to plan experiments, hypothesize on results, record formal notes and carry out basic laboratory procedure. Jia Hao learned how to code with R to manipulate data. Olachi and Kevin worked mostly on the salinity experiment and were forced to become Halobacterium experts. The purpose of the salinity experiment was to test how it could be modified to suit a high school classroom. They also learned how to plan ahead during experiments, keep a formal lab book, handle lab equipment safely, make different kinds of solutions, etc. ISB is a great place and the people, friendly and casual, are always willing to answer questions or help in any way. We were able to attend various seminars on software instruction, research in progress, and such. Plus, there is candy in the lobby. So you should definitely apply.
