Educational Outreach: Summer 2003

Summer Interns:

The Institute of Systems Biology's Halobacterium group has sponsored two high school students for a summer research internship. After an application and interview process, Hanh Nguyen and Sharmila Pal were chosen. These lucky students had the opportunity to work with our Senior Scientists in laboratory experiments, website design, and get a feel for scientific research.

In particular, the interns became more familiar with:

Halobacteria (Hb) proteins and intercellular workings
Regulatory Networks of Hb proteins
Proteomics and Mass Spectroscopy
Immunoprecipitation and Western Blot
Micro Array
Protein Crystallography
Laboratory Techniques: PCR, Gel Run and others
