Thalassiosira pseudonana

thaps

Thalassiosira pseudonana are unicellular, photosynthetic, eukaryotic diatoms with two-part silica cell walls. The critical nutrients necessary for them to survive include nitrogen, silica, and phosphorus. They also grow best when they are inoculated in a 1:10 cells to ESAW medium ratio, although they can tolerate a wide range of salinities. Once inoculated, cultures should be placed on a shaker under 150 to 500 µmol/(s*m^2) intensity light for a 12 hour day-night cycle. Their growth cycle generally lasts about a week, after which they should be transferred to new media. T. pseudonana can live in pH levels from 7.2-8.8 and thrive at 25°C but can survive at other temperatures. They take a lot of maintenance to stay healthy and grow, so getting as close to optimal conditions as possible is recommended. Healthy cells will cluster less.
