Kyle Hopkins

Kyle Hopkins is a rising senior at Garfield High School in Seattle, Washington. He is also a full-time Running Start student at Seattle Central College. He has long participated in many computer science opportunities and is currently particularly interested in Biology. This summer, Kyle took a deeper dive into the STEM field by working at the Institute for Systems Biology, where he collaborated with Dhanasri Prabhu and Sahaana Sridhar under the mentorship of Drs. Ameek Bhalla and Jared Roach to research NLRP3’s impact on the onset of type 1 diabetes in mice.

Outside of ISB, Kyle has pursued opportunities at the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center where he worked in a lab and learned about pipetting, gel electrophoresis, and current understanding of cancer treatments. Kyle is also an active member of his high school community through community service as the Key Club president.

In his free time, Kyle enjoys Orienteering, running, reading, and gaming as well as occasionally messing around in Photoshop and PowerPoint.
