Try new things, and fail, and not get dejected, but get more inspired by knowing that you want to do things differently and how you could get better\u201d ~<em><a href=\"https:\/\/baliga.systemsbiology.net\/see-interns\/hs2018\/nitin-baliga\/\"><strong>Nitin Baliga<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;You must have determined optimism in the face of resistance&#8221; ~<em><strong>Lee Hood<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cIf you are really interested in the question that you&#8217;re asking, it&#8217;s going to make life easier, if not, at least enjoyable\u201d ~<em><a href=\"https:\/\/baliga.systemsbiology.net\/see-interns\/hs2018\/vivek-srinivas\/\"><strong>Vivek Srinivas<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Do not get rigid. Don&#8217;t reject ideas based on dogma, but only based on logic.&#8221; <em>~<strong>Lee Hood<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cIn order to find what success means, know what you\u2019re doing and make sure you have enough information to define that success\u201d <em>~<\/em><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/baliga.systemsbiology.net\/see-interns\/hs2018\/nitin-baliga\/\">Nitin Baliga<\/a><\/em><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Research is ninety-five percent failure and five percent success rate, and thus you should learn to be happy with it\u201d <em>~<a href=\"https:\/\/baliga.systemsbiology.net\/see-interns\/hs2018\/vivek-srinivas\/\"><strong>Vivek Srinivas<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cIf you&#8217;re open to your vision of your future changing, you&#8217;ll find a better fit for yourself overall. Your interests will shift over time, even if you&#8217;re in the perfect fit, in the beginning, you&#8217;ll find yourself wanting to do something new\u201d <em>~<a href=\"https:\/\/baliga.systemsbiology.net\/see-interns\/hs2018\/maryann-watkins\/\"><strong>Maryann Watkins<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cTry to focus on the present and not the future\u201d <em>~<a href=\"https:\/\/baliga.systemsbiology.net\/see-interns\/hs2018\/meet-the-isbers\/jared-roach-md-phd\/\"><strong>Jared Roach<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;My father used to say, \u201cIf you do a job you love, you\u2019ll never work a day in your life.\u201d Think about what is more important, because ultimately it\u2019s up to you&#8221; <strong><em>~<\/em><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/baliga.systemsbiology.net\/see-interns\/hs2018\/jake-valenzuela\/\"><strong><em>Jake Valenzuela<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Nothing is really set and stone and you can always do more than you originally envisioned. I think it\u2019s valuable to try different things because then you\u2019ll never know what you really like.&#8221; ~<em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/baliga.systemsbiology.net\/see-interns\/hs2018\/maryann-watkins\/\">Maryann Watkins<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Every so often along your career path take a moment to stop and think about where you are headed and ask yourself if that path is leading you in the direction that feels like an authentic fit. If it doesn\u2019t, explore other options until you get on a pathway that gets you to where you want to be.&#8221;~<a href=\"https:\/\/baliga.systemsbiology.net\/see-interns\/hs2018\/meet-the-isbers\/becky-howsmon\/\"><em><strong>Becky Howsmon<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Schooling &amp; Skills<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;The most important thing in your career is to have fun, work with good people, and go to good institutions. You can be infinitely smart, but if you&#8217;re talking to people smarter than you, your abilities will be amplified.&#8221;<em> ~<strong>Lee Hood<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cWriting skills are super important, really getting a good understanding and appreciation for writing, for reading scientific literature and other types of literature\u201d <em>~<a href=\"https:\/\/baliga.systemsbiology.net\/see-interns\/hs2018\/jessica-day\/\"><strong>Jessica Day<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cDefinitely learn how to program. It&#8217;s really important.\u201d <em>~<a href=\"https:\/\/baliga.systemsbiology.net\/see-interns\/hs2018\/meet-the-isbers\/alison-paquette\/\"><strong>Alison Paquette<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cBe opportunistic and flexible.
